Attention Seeking Behavior

Why is this a bad thing??

Someone tell me.

Why is this considered bad?

All human interaction is attention seeking behaviour...I am currently engaging in attention seeking behaviour by typing this..

Whenever I hear someone say "He is just engaging in attention seeking behaviour, just ignore him" I want to scream...I want to scream "Then give him ATTENTION!!". I would much rather work with a kid that wanted my attention and therefore obviously cared about receiving mine than work with someone who doesn't give a damn about interacting with me.

Kids with ADHD are ignored so often, either due to their behaviours or their actions that some are strangely starved for real attention. If a child is acting out or being silly or causing a disturbance. FIND OUT WHY. Sure, address the behaviour (you have too) but also find out why they felt the need to do it in the first place. What are they trying to really communicate. Give them attention. Tell them privately I am willing to give you, no I want to give you my attention.

Often kids with ADHD have crappy self esteem and will do almost anything to get attention form their peers or others. If you suspect that this is the cause of their "Attention Seeking Behaviour" then do things to build up there self esteem (I will talk about things you can do to increase Self Esteem in another Blog soon) and they will not need to seek ego-boosts inappropriately and create issues...

Just my 3 cents worth..
